Education and learning is critical to any technology role.  Technology changes frequently and to be successful you will need to learn and keep up with the latest and greatest to maintain long-term success in your career.  Recently I took an AWS Training course focused on cloud and architecting for reliability.  Let’s take a closer look at what I learned.

Overview

The author of this course did a good job teaching through slides and doing some demos.  This course is intermediate level and it is recommened that you have worked with the AWS instance architecture before you get started.  Here is what you will learn directly as stated by Pluralsight.

“Architecting for reliability is all about making sure your cloud-based applications are not only available a certain percentage of the time, but that they’re also performing well. In this course, Architecting for Reliability on AWS, you’ll learn how to implement highly available application architectures on AWS. First, you’ll learn how to lay the security foundation of your AWS environment. Next, you’ll discover how to implement scalable, resilient virtual networks using VPCs, and use CloudFormation to automatically deploy a multi-tier application. Finally, you’ll explore how to implement multi-region architectures using Route 53. When you’re finished with this course, you’ll have the skills and knowledge needed to utilize AWS architecture in the real world.”

My Key Takeaways

My key takeaways from the course and really any element of my career is that regardless of where you are architecting in the cloud or on-prem for the right level of availability the infrastructure and application must be configured correctly.  The focus of this AWS training course is on the cloud and architectural reliability, plus getting started with your own configuration.  To have success everything should be configured correctly, and just because you are working in the cloud doesn’t mean it just works.  The on-prem environment you are likely integrating with will have it’s own nuances to consider for integration and user connectivity success when architecting your AWS environment.

Just because it’s cloud doesn’t mean it will just work.  Take time for AWS training to make sure you are deploying correctly.  It can be challenging to fix issues once your users are accessing the environment and there is an incorrect configuration.

Training in General for Career Success

It is so important to have goals for yourself to expand on your knowledge overall.  Careers in technology do require the ability to be agile and adjust your knowledge as technology advances, so having a solid and proven training platform to use whenever you want to support your career growth can be very helpful.  We covered this here, and if you are doing any goal setting you will want to use this checklist that I created recently.
