Well if you haven’t heard Exchange 2019 is here now in public preview. During Microsoft Ignite 2017 it was announced that Exchange Server 2019 would be coming out in 2018. This announcement put away fears that Exchange Server 2016 would be the last on-premises version. Microsoft came through and released the public preview of Exchange Server 2019 on July 24th, 2018.

What you can expect with Exchange Server 2019

Keep in mind this is a public preview. This means that things may change once it goes in the general availability, but will give you an idea of what we can expect when it does get released.

Server Core Support – One of the cool things that I’m excited to see about the Exchange Server 2019 is that it can now be installed on Windows Server core! Yes, a minimal installation of Windows Server means we have less overhead and a more secure operating system running one of the most critical applications to a business, Exchange Server 2019. Check out this post on getting started with Deploying Exchange Server 2019 on Windows Server Core.

Performance and Hardware  – Changes in hardware only means 1 thing, better performance! Exchange Server 2019 will be able to support more cores and memories. According to the Exchange Team blog it is a Max of 48 processor cores and up to 256 GB of RAM, wow that’s a lot of memory. And let’s not forget, it was announced last year at Microsoft Ignite that Exchange Online was using SSD for tiered storage. They are going to be adding it to Exchange Server 2019 however not in the public preview.

New features and experiences  – The calendar experience is going to get improved with Simplified Calendar Sharing and the addition of the “Do Not Forward” option. Exchange admins will also see additional administrative features making it easier for them manage and delegate calendars
